Scheduled AI Tasks: Create Website Content While You Sleep

BD Butler can now create content on your site automatically — on a schedule, in the background, even while your computer is off. The AI assistant built into your Brilliant Directories admin has three new Skills — blog articles, event posts, and job listings — and you can wrap any of them in a Routine that runs hourly, daily, or weekly. Set it once, and fresh, SEO-ready content keeps landing on your directory or membership site without you lifting a finger. If that sounds familiar, it should: this is the same skill-driven engine we covered in Create SEO Content Automatically with Claude Skills — but migrated directly into BD Butler. No third-party app, no API keys, no paid Claude plan, and no need to keep your computer and a desktop app running. It's all native to your admin.

What "Skills" and "Routines" Actually Mean

A Skill is a job BD Butler knows how to do end to end, with built-in constraints and instructions the AI follows every time. A Routine is that Skill saved with a schedule — a standing instruction that fires on the cadence you choose until you tell it to stop. The important part is what happens behind the scenes. This isn't an AI inventing facts. Each Skill runs live web searches to find real events, real job openings, and authoritative sources for articles, pulls in a relevant stock photo on its own, and wires up internal links across your site plus outbound links to official sources. Because it fetches real-world data instead of manufacturing it, each task takes roughly three to six minutes — that's the research working for you.

The Three Built-In Skills

  • Create a Blog Article — researches a topic in your niche, drafts an SEO-focused post in your site's voice, finds a unique image, and adds internal links plus authoritative outbound links.
  • Create an Event Post — finds a real, current event, writes it up with full meta detail, attaches a fitting image, and links to the official event page.
  • Create a Job Listing — hunts the web internationally for genuine openings in your vertical, formats the listing, calculates a median salary where it can, and links back to the employer's page.
These are phase one. More Skills are on the way — think reports and member content enrichment — and the BD Butler button is rolling out across more of your admin, replacing Quick Create.

Why This Beats the Old Way

Running Skills through the MCP with Claude works well, but it came with friction. This release removes it:
  • No computer required. Previously, scheduled routines only ran while your machine and the Claude desktop app stayed open. BD Butler routines run on Brilliant Directories' side — close everything and they keep going.
  • No paid AI plan. Claude routines require a paid tier (starting around $100–$200). BD Butler's scheduling is built in.
  • No setup tax. No third-party account, no API keys, no code. If you skipped the MCP connection because it felt like too much, none of that is needed here.
For the bigger picture of what BD Butler can do beyond content, see 5 Ways BD Butler AI Can Help Grow Your Membership Website.

Who This Is For

  • Owners who can never keep up with publishing — if writing three to five quality posts a week is the thing that never happens, this closes the gap.
  • Industry and association directories that want to be a genuine resource hub with a live events feed and job board.
  • Niche job boards — sourcing real openings is hard; BD Butler is trained to find them across industries and regions.
  • Anyone who left the MCP or a third-party tool on the table because connecting it felt like too much — this needs none of that.

How to Set Up a Scheduled Task — Step by Step

1. Open Tasks and start a new task

Click the Tasks tab in BD Butler, hit New Task, pick one of the three Skills, and give it a nickname (like "Demo Blogs").

2. Choose an author

Attribute the posts to your admin user or any other user on the site. You'll pick one per task.

3. Add your flavor in the "magic box"

Custom instructions are optional but powerful. BD Butler already knows to write for your site — it checks your site name, URL, menus, footer links, category structure, and recent posts — so it can produce a solid post with no input at all. But a one-liner shapes the output. For a fitness site you might write:
Write a series of articles on working out during winter — strength training, cross-country prep, and staying active in the cold.

4. Choose how many to create

Generate one, two, or three items per run. Three is the cap on purpose — quality dips beyond that.

5. Set draft or publish

Publish live, or save as a draft so you can review before anything goes public. If you're new to it, start with draft.

6. Run once, or put it on a schedule

Choose Run once now for a quick test, or schedule it — every hour, every day, or weekly on specific days (say Monday/Wednesday/Friday, so different themes run on different days). A built-in "jitter throttle" offsets execution by ±15 minutes from the scheduled hour to keep things stable, so tasks won't always fire exactly on the hour.

7. Save it as a routine — and manage it

Anything other than "run once" can be saved as a routine: let it run forever until you cancel, or cap it at exactly 10 or 50 runs. From the Routines list you can start or stop it, clone it to spin up a variation, do a one-off manual run, or edit it so the next run reflects your changes.

8. Review results in Tasks

Completed and running tasks show up with their outcome and how long each took. Successful tasks open to reveal the result — a link to what was created, the meta details, and the instructions you gave it — while failed ones surface the error (like a connection issue). You can safely close the window mid-run and come back later.

Use Cases Demonstrated Live in the Video

Blog articles that read like a real writer wrote them

In the demo, BD Butler produced three articles on its own — "7 Signs You Need a Running Coach for Your First Half Marathon," "How to Choose a Youth Strength and Conditioning Coach," and "Pilates vs. Yoga for Desk Workers with Tight Hips." Each targets short- and long-tail keywords, links internally to related posts, and cites authoritative outbound sources like Harvard Health Publishing and Healthline. An anti-slop mechanism even checks the output against AI-detection tools to keep quality high.

Job listings with salary math built in

The jobs Skill found real openings — an entry-level personal trainer role at The Perfect Workout, and a full-time Equinox position in San Francisco — each with internal links to the quick-apply and career pages, a link back to the employer, and even a calculated median salary. Point a routine at a city and it keeps the board fresh; narrow it to C-suite fitness roles or university coaching positions and it respects that focus.

Events, spotlights, and more

Beyond the core three, the Skill can write press-release-style event promos, member spotlight articles (pulling from a member's profile and website), and even advertorial-style features on local businesses. Run several routines at once — one for events, one for jobs, one for blogs — each with its own angle, and your site fills out fast.

Images optimized automatically

Every post gets a unique stock photo, chosen for relevance and checked so it hasn't been used on your site before (up to ~99% reliable). BD Butler then optimizes it the same way a CSV import or the API would — resized, converted to WebP, triple-optimized down to around 30 KB — so your pages stay fast.

Create With Purpose, Not Just Volume

Here's the honest caution from the video: BD Butler could generate 72 articles a day if you let it — but volume isn't the goal. Unlimited content only helps if it has a reason to exist. Before you schedule anything, decide what you're creating and why: build a simple content plan, map different content types to different days, and track the metrics that tell you it's working. Content with a purpose makes your site a genuine resource; content for its own sake is just noise. Pair this with the strategy in AI SEO on Autopilot to keep it grounded.

Where to Be Careful

  • Start with "run once" and draft mode. Review the first outputs before you turn on a recurring, auto-publishing routine.
  • Keep runs to three per turn. It's the reliability ceiling — more than that and quality slips.
  • Give routines a real theme. A broad, repeatable angle works best since a routine runs on repeat; vague prompts produce vaguer fits.
  • Have a plan and watch your metrics. Decide the purpose first, then let automation scale it.

How to Get Started

  1. Start a free BD trial if you don't have a site yet.
  2. Open BD Butler in your admin and click the Tasks tab.
  3. Create a new task, pick a Skill, choose an author, and add a one-line theme.
  4. Run it once in draft mode to see the quality, then adjust your instructions.
  5. Save it as a Routine on the schedule that fits your content plan — and let it work while you sleep.

Introduction to BD Butler's New Features

  • BD Butler has been updated with new skills, allowing it to create blogs, events, and job posts on autopilot based on user-provided criteria, with the ability to schedule these tasks hourly, weekly, or daily (00:00:00).
  • The development of BD Butler's skills was motivated by the desire to migrate functionality from the MCP, which relies on a third-party app, directly into BD Butler, making it more accessible and convenient for users (00:01:01).
  • The MCP's skills and routines functionality, particularly when using Claude (language model), allows for preset tasks and scheduled routines, and this functionality is being migrated to BD Butler, with the first phase already rolled out (00:01:35).
  • BD Butler currently has three built-in skills: automatically creating blog articles, event posts, and job listings, with built-in constraints and instructions for the AI to follow, and the ability to search the web for research and information (00:02:32).
  • The update also allows BD Butler to access the web for research, enabling it to gather necessary information and create content, such as blog posts, and publish them on the user's site (00:02:44).
  • The development of BD Butler's skills is expected to continue, with further updates and expansions planned for the coming days and weeks (00:03:02).

Comparison with Previous Tools and Limitations

  • One of the limitations of using Claude (language model) is that running routines requires a paid plan, with options starting at $100 or $200, whereas manual skills can be run without a paid plan, but require manual intervention (00:03:32).
  • The BD Butler routine allows users to create website content while they are not actively using their computer, eliminating the need to keep the computer and Claw desktop app open for the routine to run, which was a requirement in the past (00:03:59).

User Configuration and Task Execution

  • With the BD Butler routine, users can choose the skill they want the AI to perform, provide instructions, and configure settings, and then either run the task once or schedule it to run repeatedly on a set schedule (00:04:51).
  • The routine also allows users to choose whether the generated content is saved as a draft or published automatically, giving them the option to review the content before it goes live on their site (00:05:25).

Expanding Functionality and Purpose of Automated Content

  • The introduction of skills and routines in BD Butler expands its functionality, allowing users to set specific tasks to run on autopilot behind the scenes, without needing to be at their computer or have their website open (00:06:02).
  • The ability to create unlimited content with AI raises questions about what content to create and why, and users should consider the purpose and reason behind creating content, rather than just creating it for the sake of it (00:06:45).
  • To effectively leverage automated content creation, users should consider creating a schedule for different types of content, such as blog articles, events, and jobs, and ask themselves what and why they are creating each type of content (00:07:16).
  • By doing so, users can give their website a purpose and reason for creating content, rather than just creating content for the sake of growth, and use the automated content creation to help their website achieve its goals (00:07:49).

Planning and Strategic Use of Content Creation

  • Creating a content creation plan is essential to keep track of metrics and stay grounded, and this plan will help determine what to do with the created content and how it will work, allowing for the tracking of metrics (00:08:04).

UI Enhancements and Task Creation Interface

  • The BD Butler button is being added to more places, and it is expected to replace the quick create button, providing a pop-up with various options, including creating blog posts, events, or jobs, with more skills to be added later, such as creating reports or doing member content enrichment (00:08:31).
  • The tasks button on the member page allows users to create new tasks, choose a skill, and give it a nickname, with the option to create blog posts, events, or jobs, and the ability to choose how many tasks to do in each turn, with a limit of three for reliable quality (00:08:49).
  • The BD Butler button is not constrained to only getting information from members, even when accessed from the search members page, and it can be used to perform tasks on any part of the site, with the goal of replacing the quick create button soon (00:09:57).

Content Generation Process and Customization

  • When creating a new task, such as a blog article, the BD Butler already knows to write an article focused on the site, checking the site's name, URL, main menu links, footer links, category structure, and recent posts, and it can reliably create a blog post without requiring any input in the "magic box" (00:10:55).
  • The "magic box" can be used to enter information to change the shape or flavor of the output, and examples will be shown to demonstrate how to use it, allowing users to customize their content creation (00:11:13).
  • The BD Butler can create up to three blog articles, events, or job posts in one turn, with the quality degrading slightly when creating more than three, and it can be used to create content without requiring any guidance on the type of article desired (00:11:37).

Scheduling and Task Management

  • To create scheduled AI tasks, it is necessary to choose an author for the article, which can be the admin user or any other user on the site, and this selection is made at the beginning of the process (00:11:55).
  • The system allows for flexibility in scheduling, enabling users to publish content live or save it as a draft for later moderation, and it also offers options to run the task once, every hour, or every day, with the possibility of limiting the number of runs (00:12:13).
  • For those using the system for the first time, it is recommended to run the task once and provide some context for the desired output, allowing for adjustments to be made later based on the results (00:12:45).
  • The system has a built-in "jitter throttle" that offsets task execution by plus or minus 15 minutes from the scheduled hour to maintain stability, which means tasks may not run exactly on the hour (00:13:10).

Task Review and Error Handling

  • Completed tasks can be reviewed, and the system provides information on the outcome, including any errors that may have occurred, such as the inability to connect, and successful tasks can be examined to see the generated content (00:13:58).

Content Customization and Niche Targeting

  • The system can be given custom instructions to generate content that fits a specific niche or theme, and it can search for related events, locations, and professionals, and even find suitable images from stock photo libraries (00:14:22).
  • The generated content includes a post image, which is selected from stock photo libraries based on relevance and ensuring it has not been used on the site before, with a high reliability rate of up to 99% (00:14:59).
  • The system's ability to find real sources of information and automatically create internal links to related content, such as events in the same location, adds significant value to the generated content (00:15:28).
  • The system is capable of internal linking and can also link to authoritative sources of information in articles, which is important for ranking in Google and AI SEO, and this feature can be customized in the system prompt (00:16:13).
  • The system automatically links to external sites, such as kennethonraces and active.com, which may seem counterintuitive but can actually help with SEO and traffic, and this feature can be turned off if desired (00:16:25).

Content Creation Workflow and Quality Assurance

  • The process of creating articles takes around three to six minutes to complete, during which time the system searches the internet, and the user can close the window and come back later without interrupting the process (00:17:07).
  • The system performs multiple checks, including checking for duplicate posts, official sources of information, and duplicate post images, to ensure that the created content is unique and of high quality (00:17:36).
  • The system also finds a unique stock photo image for each post, making it a smart and efficient tool for creating website content (00:17:49).

Content History and Performance Evaluation

  • The user can view all the jobs that the system has created in the past, which can be useful for tracking progress and evaluating the quality of the created content (00:18:10).

Real-World Testing and Use Cases

  • The system is being tested on a fitness test site, which allows the user to see how the system performs in a real-world scenario and make any necessary adjustments (00:18:24).
  • The system can create job listings, such as an entry-level personal trainer position at The Perfect Workout, which includes internal links, a link to the quick application page, and career page, all optimized for SEO (00:18:37).
  • The system can also automatically calculate the median salary for a job listing and include it in the post, as seen in the example of Equinox hiring a full-time personal trainer in San Francisco, California, with a link to the San Francisco page for jobs (00:18:59).
  • The system can run on autopilot to find new jobs and events in a specified city or town, populating the site with fresh content, and can be customized to focus on specific types of jobs or events, such as C-suite level jobs in the fitness industry or university positions for coaches (00:19:36).

Content Diversity and Routine Configuration

  • The system allows for multiple routines to be set up to run different types of content, such as event, job, or blog posts, with varying focuses, enabling the creation of diverse and targeted content (00:20:33).

Image Optimization and Content Enhancement

  • The system optimizes images for posts by reducing their size, changing them to WebP format, and applying a triple level of optimization, as demonstrated when it fetches an image and processes it in the same way as when importing a CSV of images or using the API (00:21:23).
  • The system can create high-quality articles, such as "7 Signs You Need a Running Coach for Your First Half Marathon", in a short amount of time, approximately five minutes, and can produce different flavors of articles that rank for short and long tail keywords (00:22:15).
  • The system's ability to create diverse and optimized content can help a site look established and seasoned, making it difficult for competitors to keep up, especially when used in conjunction with other marketing efforts (00:20:13).
  • The image size is approximately 30 kilobytes, which is a relatively small size, and the AI tool is capable of generating content with relevant images, such as a track field with high school or young college kids (00:22:57).

Content Examples and SEO Optimization

  • The system can create high-quality articles, such as "7 Signs You Need a Running Coach for Your First Half Marathon", in a short amount of time, approximately five minutes, and can produce different flavors of articles that rank for short and long tail keywords (00:22:15).
  • The system's ability to create diverse and optimized content can help a site look established and seasoned, making it difficult for competitors to keep up, especially when used in conjunction with other marketing efforts (00:20:13).

  • The AI tool links to authoritative external sources, such as Healthline.com, to provide resources for the reader and demonstrate its ability to create high-quality content that is not self-serving (00:24:11).

Custom Instructions and Article Structure

  • The custom instructions feature allows users to specify the structure and content of the generated articles, including the use of bullets, introductions, and FAQs, and the AI tool can be directed to create specific types of content, such as spotlight articles on members (00:24:58).
  • The AI tool can be used to generate a large volume of content, such as 72 articles per day, but it is essential to consider the purpose and direction of the content creation to ensure it is helpful for marketing, members, and the website (00:25:19).

Content Generation from External Data

  • The AI tool can search the internet and databases to gather information and create custom content, such as a GQ-style profile expose on a member, based on specific criteria and instructions (00:25:51).
  • The AI tool can tap into databases and create different types of content based on the provided criteria, such as membership plans, and can be used to generate content for specific purposes, such as marketing or member engagement (00:26:22).
  • A tool can be used to create website content, such as a puff piece advertorial about a business, by visiting the business's website, gathering information, and writing a positive article, as seen in the example of West Asheville Yoga, which built a studio around belonging (00:26:57).
  • The tool can also be used to automatically email the business, expressing admiration for their work and offering them the opportunity to add or change anything in the article, although this email feature is not yet built-in (00:27:16).

Marketing Automation and Task Chaining

  • The tool has the potential to create a marketing engine by daisy-chaining tasks, such as creating a blog article and then executing another task, and it can be used to write different types of articles, such as a positive spotlight article about a member on the site (00:27:49).
  • The tool takes the member's profile information, visits their website, finds out their services, and creates a nice article, although the aesthetics could be improved, and it can be used to create content on a routine basis (00:28:07).
  • Completed tasks can be rerun, saved routines can be turned off or cloned, and new tasks can be created based on the same criteria, allowing for flexibility and customization (00:28:25).

News Summarization and Anti-Plagiarism Features

  • The tool can look at the web, find new articles, and summarize them on a website, allowing users to stay up-to-date with world news, and it can be used to find authoritative sources and re-summarize news on a website (00:29:12).
  • The tool has an anti-slop mechanism that checks against AI detection tools, such as Gemini, to ensure the content is of high quality and not overly similar to other content (00:30:08).

Event Promotion and Content Variety

  • The tool can be used to advertise events, and it can find public events on the internet and create content about them, similar to a press release style, and it can be used to create content on a variety of topics (00:30:24).
